Share the News
This probably goes without saying, but the first thing you’ll want to do is to share the happy news. You may want to just savour the moment and keep it between yourselves for a little while, or you may want to tell everyone as soon as possible. I recommend telling your inner circle before you go public and post the news on social media. This includes your parents, immediate family and closest friends – once the VIPs have been updated, you can publish your ‘I Said Yes’ post on the ‘gram!
Enjoy being Engaged
Once everyone is in the loop, remember you can simply take a moment to enjoy being engaged. Some couples feel obliged to dive headfirst into wedding planning, but don’t feel you have to rush into anything. Instead, bask in the romance of post-engagement bliss! Why not host an engagement party? Any excuse to celebrate the happy news!
Get Organised
Okay, so you’re ready to get planning. There are some brilliant wedding apps out there, as well as inspirational blogs and directories brimming with suppliers and vendors. At this point, you may want to consider hiring a wedding planner if you feel you need a helping hand managing various elements of your big day. Once you’ve selected a date for your celebration, you can start ticking other items off your checklist.
Prioritise areas of your Wedding Day
At this point, you’ll want to begin shortlisting suppliers and venues, as well as setting a budget that you want to stick to. I also suggest that you prioritise areas of your wedding day in terms of importance and how you want to allocate your budget. For instance, if you’re real foodies you might want to spend more on a delicious dining experience, whereas if you know the music and dancing is key for you and your guests, you will want to spend some time researching DJs and live bands. Take time to sit down together and discuss the areas of your wedding day that you want to spend the most on before you begin booking anything.
