And what better way to do this than to add an array of personal touches that reflect your relationship and the journey that led you to your forever moment. As a wedding planner in Devon, I love nothing more than seeing a celebration packed with personality and authentic details that effortlessly tell your love story. With that in mind, I’ve whipped up a few different ways that will help you put a unique stamp on your day. You’ve picked your favourite blooms and that all-important wedding décor, now it’s time to include meaningful details that will make your day feel extra special. Take a moment to consider any significant memories that mean the world to you both, and how you can incorporate these into your nuptials. Perhaps you have a piece of family heirloom jewellery which has been passed down generations that you could attach to your dress or even your bouquet? Alternatively, you could ask your seamstress to stitch the date of your wedding (or even your first date) into your gown.
Draw inspiration from your shared hobbies and things you’ve always loved doing together. If you’re both huge fans of coastal walks, why not collect some shells from your favourite beach and use them as décor or personalised place settings. You could even name your tables after your favourite beaches or coastlines. Perhaps gardening is a passion for you both, so you could use little packets of seeds as your wedding favours and ‘let love grow!’ You may love plane-hopping and travelling the world together, so instead of a normal guestbook, you could ask your guests sign a world globe that can sit on your windowsill and remind you of your perfect day.
You’ve said your ‘I do’s’ and it’s time to pop the champagne! And on the topic of all things boozy, have you thought of a signature drink? Think of date night with your loved one and what your go-to tipple is, or perhaps choose a ‘his and hers’ cocktail that you want to share with your friends and family.
Your wedding is great way to take a trip down memory lane, so why not use this opportunity to create a photo wall of your journey as a couple?! You can include pictures from when you were younger or even your own parents’ and grandparents’ wedding days! Not only are these a lovely sentiment to your family, but they’re also a fab talking point and ice breaker for your guests. Plus, including snaps of your loved ones is a brilliant way of making everyone feel included and it’s guaranteed to get your guests reminiscing about good times.
One of our personal favourites, which does require some time and effort, is to write personalised messages to each guest on their table place. Tuck your handwritten note into their napkin and include a memory or happy time you spent with them or explain what they mean to you and why you couldn’t tie the knot without them there. This is a day of love, and you will want to share it with everyone! Cue all the happy tears...
Finally, you want your day to be unforgettable, so making each aspect as personal as possible will make that happen. Use your favourite colour for your colour palette, choose flowers that you usually fill your house with and opt for a venue that transports you back to a specific moment during your time together that you wish you could re-live. Your wedding day should feel like it belongs to you and only you.
