Supplier Spotlight - Katy Jones Photography

We’re back on the blog with our latest guest for our Supplier Edit series and we couldn’t be happier to be catching up with Katy Jones! A creative, talented and downright brilliant wedding photographer based in Devon, Katy has been documented more epic love stories than you can shake a stick at. Her style is unobtrusive (yet she’s super warm and personable), fun and utterly authentic. Keep scrolling to see some of her weddings in action and enjoy getting to know the photographer behind the camera...

It's lovely to feature you! Tell us a little bit about your photography business and what you offer couples?

I love love and I’m a total romantic. I’m a people person with a creative streak so taking pictures of my couples on their happiest of days is really the best job in the world for me.

I invest a lot into my business, professionally and personally and I’ve grown it completely organically from referrals and the kindness of people sharing their experiences and images on social media.

I bring best friend vibes, I’m with you to offer a supportive hand squeeze if things start getting too much and I’m right there on the dance floor with you and the squad.

What is your signature style / what makes you stand out from the crowd?

It’s the best feedback when someone says, ‘I saw a photo and I knew it was yours”. I have created a very consistent look to my images which have very warm, earthy tones. I am usually found mingling and mixing at weddings, so expect lots of candid shots and people looking happy and having fun.

How do you ensure couples feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera?

It’s all in the energy for me and matching it in the moment. Knowing when to be cool, calm and collected and when we can let loose, laugh out loud or get the party started. This makes people feel comfortable and able to be themselves, let their guard down and see me as one of their friends - not just a supplier. I’m also married which really helps. I’ve been where my couples are, so I identify with all the emotions.

What does your typical working day look like?

It starts with coffee, always (mine’s an oat latte). I try and keep on top of my emails every day. Being responsive is really important to me. I’m impatient so I always appreciate a quick reply on everything! I could be editing, planning for upcoming weddings, making travel plans or having consultations with clients. I shoot families and some corporate content too so that is another work stream for me. There is always social media and content planning to do, accounting, supplier chats…the list goes on. Having a business means there is always something to do. I love being busy.

Do you anticipate any upcoming wedding trends?

I feel like the boho vibe is fading in favour of a more modern, sleek vibe. Think black, satin, pearls and champagne towers. And I am totally here for it.

What is your favourite part of a wedding day to capture on camera?

Golden hour portrait sessions are where I love to get creative. It’s also often the first time my couples have really spent any meaningful time together alone so seeing them reflecting on the day so far and having those precious moments together out of the madness is really super special to document.

What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?

I’m a really positive person and weddings are such happy days. Being immersed in all that love and emotion and being privileged with the task of documenting it is amazing. I never take it for granted when couples choose me. Plus I love to travel and explore my creativity so there’s everything to love about it. It’s always a great day at the office for me.
